Boot to a previous MS-DOS version
To boot to a previous MS-DOS version, edit Msdos.sys, and add BootMulti=1:
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select 'Find' and select 'Files or Folders...'. (The 'Find: All Files' dialog box appears.)
3) Type the following in the 'Named' box:
MSDOS.SYS
4) Click 'Find Now'. (The 'Find: All Files' dialog box expands to include the file Msdos.sys.)
5) Right-click the file Msdos.sys. (A pop-up menu appears.)
6) Select 'Properties' from the pop-up menu. (The 'Msdos.sys Properties' dialog box appears.)
7) Click the 'General' tab.
8) Clear the 'Read-only' check box, the 'Hidden' check box, and the 'Archive' check box.
9) Click 'Apply'.
10) Click 'OK'.
11) Copy the file Msdos.sys to a diskette to make a backup:
a) Right-click Msdos.sys in the find results window.
b) Select 'Send To' from the pop-up menu.
c) Select '3-1/2 Floppy A' or other drive listed for the floppy drive.
12) Open the file Msdos.sys in 'Notepad':
a) Right click the file Msdos.sys again. (A pop-up menu appears.)
b) Select 'Open With...'. (The 'Open With' dialog box displays.)
c) Select 'NOTEPAD' from the 'Choose the program you want to use' list box, and click 'OK'.
13) Type the following in the 'Options' section:
BootMulti=1
14) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Save'.
15) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Exit' to close Notepad.
16) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Close' to exit the 'Find: All Files' dialog box.
17) Restart the computer:
a) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
b) Select 'Shut Down...'. (The 'Shut Down Windows' dialog box appears.)
c) Select the 'Restart the computer' radio button and click 'Yes'.
18) When the 'Starting Windows 95' message appears, press F4 to boot to the previous MS-DOS version.
